Jennifer Polzer dissects why Kim Kardashians incredible infomercial - i mean wedding - and subsequent divorce is good for America - and, I suggest, globally. Sadly, not only Americans get caught up in this quality viewing.
Polzer is interesting in that she has completed a 10 year project of dissecting reality tv, so her research and insights are really quite sound. She identifies quite far-reaching consequences regarding the way women are represented by reality tv and contest programs, such as Next Top Model, and The Bachelor.
Conversely, I think she also sheds a little light on how men are portrayed, without explicitly meaning too. You can assume from her article, that men are shallow superficial not-to-bright Alpha-Types, interested only in a trophy with no intelligence (Beauty and the Geek Australia, anyone?).
Read the article, but also check out her book and website here.
(i personally dont watch reality tv, and had no idea who kimmy was until this year…)
